Christmas!

Hello! Sorry it has been a while. As Christmas is coming up I thought I would do a Christmassy post! I will include some interesting facts along the way.

We have put out our Christmas tree and it is making me feel very festive. Our colour scheme is red and gold but research says that red and green are the most common colours. However gold, silver, white and blue are also popular. Some people go for a more sophisticated look by pairing gold with black, while others take a plain colour, such as white, cream, grey or silver, and pair it up with a retro colour like orange, pink or purple. Personally I am happy with a traditional red and gold.
Fact 1: In the USA they hide a decoration that looks like a pickle on a Christmas tree. People try and find it and if they do, they will have a lucky year!

Mince pies are a very popular snack at Christmas time but personally I don't like them very much. They can be quite rich and sickly and I'm not fond of raisins. The mincemeat in mince pies is made f a mixture of chopped dried fruit, distilled spirits and spices, and sometimes beef suet, beef, or venison. Originally, mince pies always had meat in them. They consisted of minced rabbit, lamb and game meat mixed with fruit, alcohol and spices. Henry V was very fond of them in his days so the festive treat went back many years.
Fact 2: A mince pie worth £3,000 was on display at a London shopping centre in December 2011. It was so expensive because it had platinum coin, platinum leaf and holy water in it!

Christmas cards are a big part of Christmas. Almost everyone sends and receives the cards so supermarkets that sell them raise a lot of money by selling cards both singularly and in multipacks. However most customers prefer a more modern image on a card than something relating to the nativity story. A survey of singularly sold cards in different supermarkets took place and in Asda 0.15% of the cards had a traditional theme. In Tesco it was 0.4%, in Sainsbury's it was 0.78% and in Morrison's it was 1.7%. None of those values are very high and I think that sometimes it is important to reflect on why we actually celebrate Christmas.
Fact 3: The world's smallest Christmas card could fit into a 1st class postage stamp 8000 times!

For the rest of the post, I am going to do a quiz! Answers at the bottom!
