Paper Towns

Dear Readers,
I have done quite a few book reviews on this blog and here is another to add to the collection. I am going to review Paper Towns by John Green.

John Green is a very successful New York Times bestselling author who has written many books including 'The Fault in Our Stars', 'Looking for Alaska' and 'Will Grayson, Will Grayson'. 'Paper Towns' definitely wasn't what I expected but I can still say I enjoyed it and it was thought provoking. It wasn't as good as some of his other books in my opinion but nevertheless, it was still a good read.

The book is about a teenage boy called Quentin Jacobsen who has spent most of his life secretly loving an adventurous girl called Margo Roth Spiegelman. One night she opens his bedroom window and beckons him for a night of revenge on her enemies. However after the adventure Margo disappears, leaving behind clues for Quentin to follow.

The book was split into three parts and I had different feeling about all three parts:

I really enjoyed the first part of this book- it was great. I thought that the author introduced the characters really well and I liked the way he described their life and personality. The part when Q and Margo go out on their adventure is brilliantly written. You get a feel for how much Q likes this girl and the lengths he will go to in order to impress her. It is suspenseful and dramatic.

The second part of the book dragged on a bit for me. There was an emphasis on preparing for prom which wasn't really a key event in the book. However I really enjoyed the part where Q was trying to puzzle out the clues and make sense of them.

The third part was better than the second but I wasn't a big fan of the ending and I thought it was a bit of an anti-climax. I don't want to give away any spoilers for anyone who hasn't read the book so I won't go into further detail.

I am going to start awarding 'LA Stars' for each book I review on this blog.
I award Paper Towns three and a half LA Stars.

Let me know if you have read Paper Towns and what you thought of it!
Bye!
