I am getting really excited about Christmas but I was wondering how Christmas is celebrated in other countries! I thought that I would do some research and blog about my findings here. I hope you learn something new today about Christmas around the world
France

France
- On the 6th of December, children are given sweets and little gifts to celebrate 'St Nicholas Day'
- On Christmas Eve, children put their shoes in front of the fireplace and in the morning they find them full of sweets
China
- Christmas isn't celebrated that widely in China
- A popular tradition on Christmas Eve is to give apples wrapped in paper
Italy
- The nativity scene is a very common decoration
- On Christmas Eve, it is quite common for Italians to not eat any meat, just some seafood
Russia
- Christmas is usually celebrated on January 6th
- Some people fast until the first star has appeared in the sky
- There are Christmas cookies called Kozulya which are made in the shape of a sheep, goat or deer
India
- Instead of Christmas trees, they sometimes decorate mango or banana trees
- Father Christmas delivers presents from a horse and cart
- Some people put oil lamps on their roofs
Germany
Stollen |
- They have lots of Christmas markets
- Christmas trees are important but they are only put up on Christmas Eve
- Stollen is a popular fruited yeast bread that is eaten at Christmas
New Zealand
- Christmas falls in the summer holidays
- Some people like to have a barbecue on Christmas Day
- Santa might be left a beer and some pineapple!
