Easter!

Hello!
With Easter coming up I decided that I would do an Easter blog post! I will include lots of facts about what I like to do at Easter and some facts as well about Easter in other cultures.

For a lot of people, the most important thing at Easter is Easter eggs! From cheap Cadbury eggs to more expensive brands like Lindt or Green and Blacks, there is a huge variety of eggs on the market. You can also get smaller eggs, for example mini caramel eggs, mini solid chocolate eggs and the popular Cadbury crème eggs. The world’s most popular egg-shaped chocolate is Cadbury’s Creme Egg. Workers at the Cadbury factory in Birmingham produce 1.5 million of these gooey treats every day! Although we all eat chocolate eggs, some people buy decorated eggs. In 2007, an egg covered in diamonds sold for almost £9 million. The egg is very special because, every hour, a cockerel made of jewels pops up from the top of the egg, flaps its wings four times, nods its head three times and makes a crowing noise! However, people don't always eat eggs! Lots of people like chocolate bunnies too! Research has said that when people first eat a chocolate Easter bunny, 76 per cent bite off the ears first, 5 per cent go for the feet and 4 per cent opt for the tail. I tend to bite off the ears first so I fit with the statistics.

We like to go to church on Easter Sunday and we are going today! However there are some quite different traditions that people from other countries do. When most people think of little kids dressed as witches they immediately think of Halloween, however in Sweden you could see a little girl trick or treating on Easter. This is because Easter usually falls very close to the Swedish tradition of Walpurgis Night which is on April 30th. Walpurgis Night in Sweden is celebrated by lighting bonfires in attempts to chase away evil spirits and witches. In France, The Netherlands and Belgium it is said that the bells of churches fly to Rome for a few days and only return on Easter morning. The flying bells are supposed to bring back colourful eggs and chocolate rabbits, almost like a special Easter Santa Claus.

What do you do at Easter?
Bye.
